8 Hiking Groups and Trail Meet-Ups in Northern Utah

While a solo hike can be just what the doctor ordered, our local trails are just too beautiful to be enjoyed alone. It's no secret that Utah is an outdoor recreation hub, and there's no shortage of local hiking groups and organizations to join. Here are just a few:

UTAH OUTDOORS 

Utah Outdoors is an outdoor community of 7,300+ members in Utah. Founded in 2012, they have been working on expanding their group as to provide greater opportunities for adventure. Those who lead Utah Outdoor events are all volunteers who are passionate about helping others find ways to get outdoors. 

WASATCH MOUNTAIN CLUB

The Wasatch Mountain Club was incorporated in 1920 by an informally organized group that had been hiking together for several years. Activities are scheduled monthly and open to everyone. Primary activities include hiking; backpacking; rock, ice, and alpine climbing; whitewater kayaking, canoeing, and rafting; flat water canoeing; sailing; mountain and road biking; snowshoeing; and Nordic skiing; as well as other social programs and conservation pursuits.

HIKING & NATURE CLUB SALT LAKE CITY 

This meet-up group is dedicated to helping other Utahns meet new people, exercise, enjoy nature, explore new terrain, see animals, and acclimate to elevation gains. Hiking events are usually held every week.

UTAH RAINBOW HIKERS

Utah Rainbow Hikers is a queer, trans, LGBTQ+ inclusive hiking group in Northern Utah that usually meets the first Sunday of every month. Learn more about this group by reading our interview with the founders here!

OGDEN AREA TRAIL HIKERS

This group, led by experienced hikers, is open to participants of all ages. Morning and evening hikes are scheduled to occur each Tuesday beginning in April and ending in October. Longer weekend hikes are planned as the season progresses.

OGDEN OUTDOORS GROUP

The Ogden Outdoors mission is to be a community open to anyone in or around the Ogden Utah area to provide valuable, up-to-date information, social connection and support, and to help encourage safe, responsible, and sustainable outdoor recreation. Events are scheduled regularly on Facebook, but all participants are welcome to plan their own.

WEBER-DAVIS OUTDOORS

This is a meet-up group for people who like to get outdoors through hiking, road and trail biking, snowshoeing, and other activities. Events are often hosted in and near Weber and Davis Counties.

COTTONWOODS CANYON FOUNDATION

The Cottonwood Canyons Foundation believes it's imperative to educate the public about the canyons’ unique importance and how the public can help promote its ecological health. The Cottonwood Canyons Foundation also aims to provide the community with direct and hands-on ways that individuals can give back to this environment through volunteering and stewardship.
